A motor accident along Oko-Addo road, Sangotedo axis in Ajah has left a man dead, at least five commuters seriously injured and few with minor injuries.
The accident which occurred around 5pm yesterday caused a gridlock in Oko-Addo but efforts were made by the road safety officials to control the traffic and the bus has been taken off the road.
A witness who gave an account of what happened said that the bus was only trying to avoid hitting a tricycle while on speed, only to swerve and collide with a trailer parked by the road.
‘’A tricycle wanted to overtake the bus while they were both on speed. The bus suspected a future impact with the tricycle, so the driver tried to swerve just to avoid the tricycle hitting his bus. By so doing and on speed, it was a direct collision with a trailer parked by the road. This accident occurred due to speed and dangerous driving’’ The witness recounted.
‘’The occupant next to the driver died instantly due to the impact. The driver and some of the passengers were in critical shape. At least five suffered various degrees of injuries. Some commuters who sustained cuts left the scene immediately’’ Another eyewitness, Mr Goke said.
Some good Samaritans and road safety officials who rushed to the scene immediately, carried out a rescue operation and were seen rushing the victims to an unidentified hospital in Ajah.
Meanwhile, some of the Samaritans told our Ajahcity correspondent that while trying to save the victims, few phones, money belonging to the victims were stolen at the scene and they were unable to reach the family of the victims.
However, it was gathered that one of the occupants of the bus who survived the accident, stole an I-phone and was later apprehended.
