A customary court, sitting in Sangotedo Ajah, on Tuesday has dissolved a twenty-six-year-old marriage between 57-year-old Anifowose Idris and 45-year-old Anifowose Temitope.
The petitioner, Idris, a resident of Awoyaya, told the court to dissolve his marriage on grounds of alleged infidelity, lack of love and irreconcilable differences.
He stated that his wife had cheated on him severally and was fond of bringing her lover into their matrimonial home.
Idris told the court that on few occasions, her wife’s lover had embarrassed him, calling him names.
‘’Our marriage lacks love. We no longer love each other. I heard that my wife has a lover which I have confirmed recently. I was at a party when her lover walked up to me and insulted me. We had a fight and I was locked up because of him. I want nothing to do with her. I lived out of our matrimonial home since 2016, due our lack of love, infidelity and lack of respect for me but now my lord, I want to take possession of my house, so, I want her out’’ He said.
The petitioner, who insisted on the dissolution of the marriage, told the court that he needed to be at peace with himself and to take care of his three children.
The respondent, however, denied ever having any sexual relationship with any other man since she met her husband, claiming that her husband was under the influence of a third wife.
She told the court that in-order for peace to reign, the marriage needed to be dissolved, following the fact that, the case was earlier presented to the court in 2017 and May, 2019.
The female court president, however dissolved the marriage, ordering Ms Temitope out of the petitioner’s house. She also ordered that the petitioner gets a new apartment for Ms Temitope, take care of the children’s welfare and to always send her a monthly allowance of N10,000.
